How STRABAG works on itself and on achieving its goals

STRABAG is working to become the most sustainable construction group in Europe. This endeavour comes with a very special responsibility: shaping the future of construction as energy- and resource-efficiently as possible. This will only succeed if we create transparency about our activities and projects, constantly work on ourselves and on achieving our goals, and work in close concert with sustainability initiatives.

Managing the impact of construction projects on biodiversity and wildlife conservation

Biodiversity covers a wide range of topics, including species diversity, genetic diversity and ecosystem diversity. As a leading construction technology group, we are aware that our activities potentially impact biodiversity in a variety of ways. We have therefore analysed our business activities and have defined several factors that we can specifically address in order to improve biodiversity protection. More information can be found in STRABAG’s position paper on biodiversity.

STRABAG SE participates in the Forum Alpbach

The Forum Alpbach offers a valuable platform for interdisciplinary exchange and the development of new ideas for a strong and democratic Europe.

As part of the “Circular Economy in the Construction Industry” lab, STRABAG SE is bringing together a diverse group of 30 participants to develop practicable solutions to the challenges of the green transformation in the construction industry.

A sense of responsibility and innovative spirit for a climate-friendly construction industry

STRABAG is promoting climate protection in the construction industry with its new "Work on Progress" strategy. In concrete terms, this currently includes over 400 sustainability and 250 innovation projects. One particularly effective measure for a climate-friendly construction sector is, for example, the use of CO2-reduced concrete, which can halve CO2 emissions in shell construction. In addition, there is a special focus on the implementation of circular construction, and in the course of this on urban mining, whereby resources are reused and landfill capacities are freed up as a result. Road construction is also becoming more climate-friendly through innovations: Pollutant-reducing asphalt and recycled asphalt make a significant contribution to sustainable roads.

  • The construction sector accounts for around 40% of global CO2 emissions and half of raw material requirements. We therefore have a very special responsibility to shape the future of construction sustainably. Through new ideas and processes, greater efficiency and by harnessing the potential of digitization. We will drive these issues forward together with the Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft - always in dialog with society and politics. And always with our goal in mind: to become the most sustainable construction group in Europe.
